The Tabernacle Scroll

Issue 12

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go……" (Matt. 28: 18,19).

"And these signs shall accompany those that believe; in my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;………they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well" (Mark 16:17,18).

It is interesting to observe that it is after his resurrection (whereby he was "declared with power to be the Son of God") that Jesus was given all authority in heaven and on earth, and he could therefore commission his disciples to go in that authority. Mark's gospel makes it clear that this authority was to be exercised by using the Name of Jesus over the person of the devil and over all his works!

This is a divine authority and has been delegated to every believer. Yes, that means You! It is the believer's responsibility to use the name "Jesus" with faith - otherwise nothing happens. If we use it with an awareness that this name is representative of the power of God, then we will see the miracles of the early church. In fact, referring to his own great miracles, Jesus promised that every believer in him would do "even greater things than I do, because I go to the Father".

When we latch on to this truth about our authority, we can see that it is unnecessary for us to pray to God about many things that we usually ask Him to do. Jesus has already done everything that he needed to do about the devil and his works. God is waiting for us to do something about the devil with the authority he has given us! He is waiting for us to cast out demons and tear down demonic strongholds. To get started, follow the advice of James 4:7 "submit to God, resist the evil and he will flee from you" - in that order!

The early church was consumed with the power of the name of Jesus. Peter, Philip and Paul were conscious of the power of the name whenever they spoke. They took it with them wherever they went. They used that name and whenever they used that name, signs and wonders followed.

It is now up to us to use the name given to us. The weapons connected with that name have been placed at our disposal. We are equipped to do the will of God.

Are you ready to act in the authority of the name of JESUS? Are you ready to unleash the power in His Name? Say "yes" today! God is waiting on you and me.

Remember the NIKE slogan? "Just do it!"
