The Tabernacle Scroll

Issue 23

Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20: 30 -31 NIV, emphasis mine).

Jesus always combined healing with the proclamation of the kingdom of God. Through healing the sick Jesus defeated Satan's works and demonstrated his rule. At the beginning of his public ministry, Jesus announced that the kingdom of God is near (Mark 1:15) and immediately began healing the sick and casting out demons. When he healed a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, he said to the Pharisees, "If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you". (Matt. 12:28).

It is important to understand that we do not yet live in the time when we are totally free from the ravages of sin. At present we only taste 'the powers of the coming age' (Heb. 6:5). There will be perfect health in the 'age to come' when Jesus returns to establish his kingdom. Then 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away' (Rev. 21:4). Men and women who love Jesus will then be completely whole - physically, emotionally and spiritually.

However, Jesus has introduced the 'age to come' into what Paul describes in Galatians 1:4 as 'this present evil age'. In Luke 17:21 Jesus proclaimed that the kingdom of God, his rule, is within us. The power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you! This is true for every one who is truly 'born of God'. Christians can taste of the benefits of the 'age to come' in this present age! This means healing benefits which include our spirits, souls and bodies.

The attitudes of our minds are paramount in the way we respond to the liberating truths of God's word. As disciples of Christ we have been given authority by Jesus himself to heal "IN HIS NAME". Preaching, teaching and healing are the commission that Christ gave to his church. Our job is to be obedient to the commission. Our obedience allows God to be God. Healing is not dependent on us but ON HIM, and for HIS GLORY.

When we claim healing in HIS NAME, we proclaim the kingdom of God on earth; we declare its authority over the evils of this age and exhibit our own submission to the Lordship of Jesus - until he comes again.

Know your authority in Christ!
